Live Tweeting the 2017 Much Music Video Awards – a celebration of the year’s best music

For my  Foundations of Digital Communications Strategy & Social Media course, one of our assignments was to live tweet an event and use Storify to compile the tweets. This was a great assignment because it showed us just how fast paced live tweeting an event can be, and how useful a tool like Storify can be to create a really cool and informative communications product to cover an event.

I chose to live tweet about the iHeartRadios’s 2017 Much Music Video Awards.  Check out some of my tweets and highlights of the musical event here.

You had me at “Aloha”

I’m not trying to fast forward time but I have to admit, around this time of year my palms start to get really itchy – a unique sign that I’m either nervous or excited lol. I can confirm, however, that I am pretty darn excited because August is just around the corner and is my most favourite month of the year for so many reasons. But the reason that tops it all is that August is the month that I married my very best friend and the love of my life and every year our anniversary gift to each other is to explore a new destination together. I am so SO excited to say that this year we’re mixing a bit of the new with a bit of the familiar. We are going to Australia and Hawaii!!! Continue reading “You had me at “Aloha””

A day in “The Royal City” better known as Guelph

One of my girlfriends moved to Guelph in the last couple of years and I finally got an opportunity to visit her recently. She has been raving about how much she loves living Guelph and after having spent a day there, it’s easy to see why. Continue reading “A day in “The Royal City” better known as Guelph”

Social networking in real life – a social experiment

I was telling my hubby about my recent group project on healthy ways to use social media and he told me that I absolutely needed to watch a video he saw recently. Writer and YouTube prankster, Jena Kingsley, did a social experiment on what it would be like if the way we interacted on social media was the same way we interact in person. Social media is a great tool for so many reasons but I can’t help but laugh at how Jena brilliantly brings social media to life in the most hilarious and awkward way.

What did you think of the video? Do we really need to Facebook “check in” at a restaurant or any location for that matter? Let’s chat in the comments below!

Feed your mind, body, and soul with dance

When I learned that my hubby was going to an all day conference one Saturday the first thing I did was call up one of my girlfriends to see if she was available to hang, and luckily for me, she was! I work downtown so I don’t usually find myself in Toronto on the weekends, but I saw a new side of Toronto that I don’t usually get to see as I’m usually only rushing to work and rushing home from work. The first thing she mentioned in our brainstorming session was an Afro-House dance class. I was instantly intrigued. Continue reading “Feed your mind, body, and soul with dance”

Cherry tomato, basil and balsamic glazed bruschetta recipe

I mentioned earlier that I’m a summer lover and one of the reasons are for the fresh, local, seasonal foods. But today, I had an extra special treat! The cherry tomato plant I had been caring for and watching grow over the last few weeks finally had some cherry tomatoes ripe enough for me to harvest and enjoy! Tips to use social media in a healthy way

Girl looking at phone

I’m half way through my  Foundations of Digital Communications Strategy & Social Media course and so far it’s been great. One of our assignments was to work as a group to create a short video and present during a live webinar. Our topic was the healthy use of social media which I was thrilled about because this is a topic that really resonates with me. I often wonder about the effects that social media has on people.  It’s a new and fascinating tool that many are still learning how to navigate. It’s opened up many doors for us to connect with people around the world, but there’s also another side to it. Continue reading “Tips to use social media in a healthy way”

My favourite things about Canada

Happy 150th Birthday, Canada!

Canada flag with Parliament in front

July 1, 2017 marks Canada’s 150th birthday and what better time to share with everyone all the reasons why I love Canada.  I was born in Toronto and raised in Mississauga (20 minutes west of Toronto) and as much as I love travelling to different countries, I always feel at ease when I set foot on Canadian soil.  Here are a few reasons why I love Canada and why I am incredibly proud to be Canadian. #MakeItCount

Nike asked YouTube personality and filmmaker, Casey Neistat, to make a movie of what it means to #makeitcount. And this is what he did…

Press play and enjoy.

The Nike brand was named after the ancient Greek goddess of victory, Nike. She was often depicted with having wings, which was the inspiration behind Nike swoosh logo.

So it comes as no surprise to me that Nike would want to make a movie of what it means to #makeitcount. It’s one of my life goals to see as much of this beautiful world as I can so this video truly resonates with me. When I travel to new and interesting destinations I feel like I’m living life victoriously.

Are you spending your time the way you want to? Do you feel like you’re living victoriously? Or rather, do you feel like you’re #winning? If not, what are you waiting for? In the spirit of Nike – Just Do It! Let’s #makeitcount together.

Quick and healthy pita pizza

Do you ever have one of those work days where most of your hours are occupied by meetings but you know you have to update that presentation and send it to your boss by end of day. So you work through lunch and every single minute between meetings just to get that presentation in on time. You then dash out of the office and run (because you left too late to walk) a block to the closest subway station just to catch your train home. Wow. I feel exhausted just writing that. But I sometimes have days like that and I’m sure you do too. Continue reading “Quick and healthy pita pizza”
